Samantha Lostia has joined CFM Advocates as a Federal Affairs Associate after working as a Congressional Fellow for Washington Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.
Lostia brings a diverse skillset to CFM’s Federal Affairs Team. She served as a sergeant in the US Marine Corps Reserves for seven years, worked as a corporate paralegal for two law firms in California and earned a master’s degree in Public Leadership from the University of San Francisco and an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of California, Davis.
Her capstone project was researching a career in government relations and legislative affairs. Her job in the Marine Corps Reserves was to attend to the training, health and morale of 30 Marines in her unit, including conducting physical and combat fitness tests. For Herrera Beutler, she researched healthcare, veteran affairs, infrastructure and environmental legislation, prepared briefing papers and responded to constituents in meetings and letters.
“I’m excited Samantha is joining our growing federal practice,” says CFM Partner Joel Rubin. “It’s not often you find someone of Samantha’s caliber and experience. She is going to be a great addition to the team and help our clients navigate the federal process, including tracking and securing federal funding awards flowing from the recently passed infrastructure package.”
“Working in politics and serving our communities has always been my dream,”Lostia says. “CFM Advocates is the perfect combination of those two ideals and I’m excited to serve in this new way.”

A proud moment for Lostia was speaking with her alma mater’s chair of political science and assistant dean of college relations and development to discuss the lack of support for students who want to pursue a career in politics. She created a brochure to address the deficiency and presented it to UC Davis.
Lostia spends her free time traveling. So far, she has been to 20 states and six countries. One of her life goals is to visit all seven wonders of the world. She saw the Roman Colosseum in 2017 and plans to visit Machu Picchu next.
