Challenge
A Portland-based company that manufactures industrial helicopters and provides aerial firefighting services needed to shore up its crisis response plan. Shortly after its crisis plan was updated, one of its helicopters crashed in fog, killing the pilot.
Approach
CFM worked with an internal team to fortify the company’s crisis plan. CFM organized a mock crisis drill to test the plan and audition three potential spokespersons. After the crash, CFM provided on-site crisis response support for key messages, internal communications and media interviews.
Success
The company’s internal crisis team was prepared to deal effectively with the fatal helicopter crash, including assisting the pilot’s wife. Internal communications were immediate. Media response was handled by the chosen company spokesperson, who had a background as a helicopter pilot in the military.
