Challenge
The City of Beaverton needs funding to improve safety, mobility, economic development, housing and recreational opportunities in its core downtown area. The City is looking to construct improvements along “The Loop,” a 20-block corridor in the downtown. Once complete, The Loop will create a strong connection between Beaverton’s Old Town and the Beaverton Central district, with wider sidewalks, protected bike lanes, better lighting, new street trees and landscaping and safe and easy crossings for everyone traveling downtown. The City does not have the resources on its own to complete the $40+ million project.
Approach
CFM prepared a multipronged strategy to seek federal grant and Congressional Directed Spending to help construct phases of The Loop project.
Success
Over a three-year period, CFM helped the City secure a $2 million RAISE planning grant and two Congressionally Directed Spending awards totaling $7.6 million. These funds, along with regional and local commitments, put Beaverton in a position to now compete for larger federal grant programs via the Infrastructure Package to complete the project.
