Spring 2027 Government Relations Intern — Washington, DC
CFM Advocates seeks a Government Relations Intern for spring 2027 to support its federal advocacy team in Washington, DC.
CFM provides federal and state advocacy to public, private, and nonprofit clients, primarily those with interests in California, Washington, and Oregon. The firm helps clients navigate the policymaking process, advance legislative priorities, and secure government funding.

Through substantive assignments, interns strengthen their research and writing skills, learn about the federal legislative process, and contribute to client advocacy efforts. Responsibilities
- Conduct research and assist with data collection and analysis to support client advocacy efforts.
- Attend congressional hearings, meetings on Capitol Hill, and other relevant events, and prepare notes and summaries.
- Help draft and edit briefing documents, client updates, and other advocacy materials.
- Prepare daily press clippings and monitor federal legislation, policy developments, and news relevant to clients.
Daily assignments will vary based on the congressional calendar, the needs of the firm and its clients, and the intern’s interests.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in political science, government, communications, or a closely related field. Preference will be given to college juniors, seniors, and recent graduates.
- Previous congressional internship or other experience with the federal legislative process.
- Strong research, writing, and editing skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, and policymakers.
- Ability to take initiative, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
Timing and Compensation
The position pays $20 per hour, with an expected commitment of 30–40 hours per week. The internship will ideally begin in January 2027 and continue through March or April, depending on the selected applicant’s academic schedule. Start and end dates are flexible.
